About Myofascial Release for Horses
Our horses are our partners. Whether you're riding competitively, or for pleasure; whether you are heading out for a hack on the trail, or asking your horse to jump, to barrel race or to complete a dressage test - performance depends on your horse feeling good.
But feeling their best can be impacted by injury, a too-rigorous training regimen, prolonged inactivity - even less-than-perfectly fitted tack. Maybe your horse is having difficulty picking up a lead in one direction, or seems to have trouble bending one way. Perhaps you've been told your horse's back seems stiff, or muscles tight.
That's where equine myofascial release therapy can help. Fascia is the connective tissue that binds all our body systems and organs together. This tissue, when it gets tight, can cause a host of issues.
A targeted form of hands-on equine bodywork therapy
Myofascial release is not just another kind of equine massage. It's a specialized equine bodywork therapy that aims to eliminate restriction and tightness, relieving areas of pressure and returning your horse to peak
performance.
Equine myofascial release can help increase circulation, decrease inflammation, or assist in rehabilitation and recovery from injury or illness. It also can help address a range of specific movement, performance or behavior issues.

Meet Michele
There is a magic in horses that speaks to my soul. My grandfather taught me to ride not long after I learned to walk, and the connection has stayed with me throughout my life.
I began practicing Myofascial Release 18 years ago with human patients, having trained under John F. Barnes (learn more about him on his website, myofascialrelease.com). From my long history with horses, I could see how valuable this treatment could be for our equine partners, and so I went on to train in Equine Myofascial Release with Tamara Thomas, RPT. (visit Tamara's website, equinemyofascialrelease.com).
In the years since I made the transition from people to horses, I've had the privilege of working with countless equine patients across a range of disciplines. Seeing what the therapy can do to help these horses move more freely and to relieve their symptoms is what it's all about.
I love my job!
Michele Richardson-Cross is an equine myofascial release therapist in Chico, serving all of Butte County and surrounding areas.
